Kangla Pass Trek

Kangla pass trek begins in the Miyar valley of Himachal Pradesh and connects the Zanskar valley in Ladakh after negotiating the Kang la pass. It is a remote and challenging trek.

The trek begins from Lahaul in Himachal Pradesh and ends in the Zanskar Range after negotiating the Kang La Pass (5450m) and a long glacier. The Miyar Nala in Lahaul that the trek covers, is famous for its wild flowers in June and July.

Day 01: The participants arrive in Manali.

Day 02: Manali – Udaipur by road, Duration: 10 hours

Day 03: Udaipur – Urgos (3250m) by road, Duration: 2 hours
Urgos is a charming village in the heartland of Lahaul and is quite prosperous. The easy trail passes through typical Lahauli countryside.

Day 04: Urgos – Tharang (3700m), Duration: 5 hours
The trail to Tharang is quite easy by Himalayan standards and is dotted with flowers early in the season.

Day 05: Tharang – Gumbah Nala (3900m), Duration: 6 hours
Trek through lush green meadows to the next camp at Gumbah Nala. These upper reaches of the Miyar Nala are renown for the many flowers that dot the meadows in spring.

Day 06: Gumbah Nala – Base Camp of Miyar Glacier (4200m), Duration: 6 hours
It’s an easy trek through lush meadows and pretty scenery to the Base Camp from where the trail becomes harder.

Day 07: Base Camp of Miyar Glacier – Base Camp of Kang La (4600m), Duration: 8 hours
Trek up the Miyar Glacier to the base of Kang La. The glacier is crevassed in places but there is no danger to wary and well-equiped trekking parties.

Day 08: Base Camp of Kang La – Kang La (5450m) – Camp after the Pass, Duration: 8 hours
The trail to the pass is challenging and precautions need to be taken to ensure the safety of the team. Set camp at the first good camping site after the descend from the top of the pass.

Day 09: Camp after the Pass – Burdun, Duration: 5 hours
Trek into the Heart of Zanskar and camp close to the ancient and well-preseved Burdun Gompa.

Day 10: Burdun – Padam, Duration: 3 hours
Trek along a almost motorable road to the road head at Padam

Day 11: Padam – Kargil by road, Duration: 5 hours

Day 12: Kargil – Leh by road, Duration: 10 hours
